This is entry is about the harsh remarks made about Christina Aguilera and her weight gain...
Anyone who really knows me, knows that I absolutely love Christina Aguilera. She is hands down one of my favorite performers of all time. She has a beautiful voice that is raw, real and doesn't need any enhancing. Girl has pipes of steal. Not only does she have the voice of an angel on steroids, she is gorgeous. She came out in 1998 when I was about 13. She's only 3 years older than me and she's been on the music scene for about 13 years now. Obviously, she doesn't look the same as she did when she first started her career. She's been married and even had a baby. Now, going through a divorce she's been a little reckless and put on some weight. Now, I don't know about you but I've known some women who either gain or lose weight when they go through something like that. Hers is just in public. Just because you gain a little weight and you aren't ideal to what "people should look like" doesn't make you any less talented. Her voice didn't gain weight, she did. She's a singer. Not a supermodel. Honestly, I don't even think she looks bad. When Britney decided to shave her head everyone made fun of her without realizing maybe she was actually human and was having a lot of problems. She even put on a little weight. Look at the girl now, she's probably at the peek of her career. The bitch came back with a vengeance and she's killin' it.
This post isn't going to be completely about celebs though, it's just what sparked my insight. No one looks exactly the same as they did from the ages of 19-30. I mean, I'd love to. Who'd complain about looking young forever? Unfortunately that's not the way the human body works. We are hard on our bodies. We work, and eat things that aren't healthy, smoke, drink and have children. Our bodies go through many changes and when someone who was once rail thin gains a little weight they get scrutinized for it. Women who were thin and petite have babies and end up not being able to get rid of the "mommy pooch" and their husbands or just mean ignorant people call them fat and make them hate themselves. It's sad. It's not just weight either. People get made fun of because of their looks, their hair, their sexual preference. If we were all the same and looked the same the world would be a boring place. While I do agree that one should always look professional and act professional in a workplace, who cares what you do or how you act outside of work as long as you aren't hurting yourself or anyone else. If you want to leave work on friday, dye your hair hot pink and go to a few punk shows and wash it out and break out your business suit and briefcase Monday morning, go ahead! Who's stopping you? It's your life, and your body.
People are so quick to judge each other based on what they see. I'm guilty of it and so is the rest of the world. It's just sad that some people can't handle the torment because they hear it all day, every day and they end up ending their own lives to quiet the pain. These are young kids too. Kids whose lives haven't even started yet.
I have friends who get judged for being too skinny, too over weight, too flat chested, too big chested. There's no such thing as perfection when it comes to the human body. One foot is always bigger than the other. One boob is always bigger than the other. You may have one blue eye and one green eye. I have straight friends, gay friends and friends who don't know if they like boys or girls. That's what makes them who they are.... and I have some pretty awesome friends. Our differences are what makes hanging out so exciting. We all have different backgrounds, different ways of saying and doing things. We learn from each other.
So in conclusion to my rant, if you want the "perfect" person, Go out and buy a Barbie or Ken doll. They all look the same, never change and they don't stick up for themselves. Just remember, you have to buy her friends too...
